Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you deliver every image you shoot?

No, I do not. I eliminate duplicate images, test shots, missed focused shots, shots with bad exposures and other images that may dilute the overall product delivery. For example, because wI may shoot with low apertures, sometimes it will take a few extra shots to make sure the focus is perfect. I don’t expect you to have the expertise or the time to zoom into each image to select the one with the sharpest focus, so I spend hours doing that on my end. In another example, candid laughs and emotional tears are some of the best images from the day. Unfortunately, they can also yield some unflattering facial expressions. I might snap a few extras of any of these moments to make sure we have a great shot with the ideal expression for the moment.

Q: What rights do I have to the digital prints?

A: You have the right to reprint images whenever you want. However, you may not sell your images for profit or publish your images without the written consent of Isiah Foster Photography.

Q: Do you shoot (Large / Small / Indian / Persian / Jewish / Christian / Gay / Non-religious) Weddings?

A: Yes, of course!  It would be my pleasure to document your celebration of any faith, non-faith, or orientation.

Q: I don’t Photograph well and I’m awkward - Can you help?

A: Yes, of course! I understand that you might not have experience being photographed and I'm here to help.  Through my easy shooing style and natural posing, I make sure that you look natural and lovely in your photos.  Some people take a little longer to warm up, and in those cases I make sure that you feel comfortable and relaxed while we are shooting. I promise, I make it painless and fun, and it won't be nearly as bad as you think!

Q: My Family hates posing for photos, can you help?

A: Yes, it would be my pleasure to help :)  With children, I often bring a bag of treats (read: bribes) which I will discuss with you in advance to make sure that you are okay with what I plan to bring.  Your three year old is obsessed with dinosaurs?  I might have one or two in my bag!  If you are a grown up who just hates being in photos, I try to shoot quickly and we take lots of breaks to chat and have fun.  I regularly hear from my clients that they are surprised at how easy and relaxed they felt at their shoot.  Engagement sessions are a great way to practice being in photos and working with me so that way your wedding photos are much more natural, easy, and fun!

Q: What is a Custom Session?

A: A Custom Session is a full length photography session with me and works best for most of the shoots I offer. Since they are custom, every session is different! We will work together to choose a location (studio, home, or outside), clothing, styling, activities, posed vs. more candid portraits, etc. Custom Sessions are usually one family (mom, dad, and kids), but it may include grandparents or pets. This may be an outdoor family session that is mostly focused on mom during her pregnancy, it may be a studio session with the focus on a group of siblings, a full-length maternity session with wardrobe styling and hair & makeup, or it may be an in-home newborn baby with mom, dad, and siblings. There are all different types of families, and I have many ideas and lots of experience with most situations! We will spend around 1-2 hours capturing your portraits, and you will have 30+ gorgeous images to choose from.

Q: What happens if we get rained out?

A: I keep a number of back-up dates open each month in case of bad weather and there is no fee to reschedule if it's raining or overcast. A beautiful day translates to amazing pictures, so it's definitely worth the wait.

Q: Are you a “natural light” photographer?

A: The most strikingly beautiful pictures are beautiful because of how the photographer used light. Natural light can be beautiful, but often, natural light isn’t coming from the right direction, or isn’t the right intensity or color, or is too harsh to meet our artistic vision. We believe in using all of the possible light sources at our disposal, which we mold and sculpt in order to create the most strikingly beautiful imagery, and most often, this is using a mix of artificial and natural light sources, both indoors and outdoors. Irene works with a lighting assistant for most outdoor portrait sessions. In fact, when people contact us for the first time, they often say that they were drawn to us because our photography looks “different,” with “depth” and “3-dimensionality.” The depth and 3-dimensionality in our photographs comes from our unique lighting style.

Q: Can you photograph different “groupings” of people during our portrait session?

A: That's the norm! Tell us about the “groupings” you want during your portrait consultation. We normally like to provide you with as much variety as possible, so, for example, during a family photography session with mom, dad, and children, we will typically photograph: a) the entire family together; b) mom and the kids; c) dad and the kids; d) the children together; e) each child individually; f) mom & dad; g) mom by herself; h) dad by herself. If you have other groupings in mind or a different vision for your family photo session, then let’s chat about that during your portrait consultation!
